It’s My Birthday

13495282_10154296897928147_356108829772833668_n

We lost my Dad last May 25th, 2017 on my Birthday.

He also could not really talk much and I had gone to TN to see my son and my grand-babies. Thinking I would be there for 3 months and it turned into 5 as our van died. But way before we came home to New York, mom called to say Dad wasn’t doing good and could we come home. I had been calling him daily, sometimes a couple times a day. He could talk then… I would always say ” I Love you ” and he would say ” I Love you too “.

I think that is the hardest part for them and for us

( when they cannot tell us what they want to say)

On May 23rd My oldest son Wesley, my youngest son Daniel and I arrived back in New York and on the 24th we went to see my Dad. He couldn’t talk to us or get the right words out. This was very hard for my son Wesley and I, at one point Wes, said he was going outside, seeing his grandfather unable to talk or respond to anything he said was hard. There are so many days that I wish that the hospital had not taken him off the meds he was on, it allowed the infection to spread faster and affect his mind and ability to talk with us.  I wanted so much to hear my fathers thoughts and to hear him say I love you one last time.

All my siblings were there, we took turns visiting him and at one point I think we were all in there in his room. Dad tried to talk, tried to tell us things but not much was audible. I hovered around his bedside and talked to him, he would follow me the whole time with his eyes and each time I would stop near his side or at the end of his bed, he would look at me and say ” Hey “…. and I would ask him what he wanted, ask him if he wanted a drink and he would shake his head no… and I would tell him that I loved him…..  At one point I was standing at the foot of his bed, thinking we would never get a chance to hear his thoughts again or know what he thought of us.

My son Daniel 9 at the time was there and had said Hi to Dad. Dad and Dan would sit and watch TV and talk weekly on our proverbial pizza night at home before we went to TN.

But that day in the hospital, though none of us could understand Dad much and he was very weak and not moving a lot….. out of nowhere, Daddy lifted his hands way up in the air and Literally hollered out ” Daniel ” and everyone went silent and cheered… Daniel was like What? To me, it was a spiritual thing and a way of Dad letting me and Daniel know that we were important to him. That he loved us and wanted Daniel to know that. It was the most loving thing that he was able to do. It will forever be in my heart, that he loved my son so much that he mustered the strength and hollered his name, lifting his hands high in the air…. It was akin to reading about Aaron holding up Moses hands in the bible.

You know I can only hope and pray that before I pass from life to eternal life that I pass on to my kids my belief and faith in our Lord Jesus. To instill in them the desire to serve the Lord, like my Dad did with me. Dad and I were very close all my life…

On my Birthday it was raining and I was in my moms’ kitchen sitting by the window, thinking about my Dad. My siblings all wandering through the house. I prayed a prayer… Lord if it is your will even this day, my Birthday wish is that Dad would go home to glory and be with you and no longer in pain. and literally not more then 3 minutes later my birthday wish came true and my mom called to say that he was gone home to heaven. She had turned around to get something, heard him take a breath and turned back and he was gone. Life is but a vapor and we need to cherish those we love….. Children Obey your parents…..Honor thy Father and thy Mother…

From my lips to God’s ear… In a moment of time…

God answered my prayer

My birthday wish… came true…

( I have never had the Lord answer prayer that fast, but that day He did ! )

That was a year ago today…  I was 53 and Daddy was 76…

Today, I am 54…  I am still missing my Dad so very much…

A+ Interactive Math Family Package Review

A+ Interactive Math

A+ Interactive Math (by A+ TutorSoft Inc.

Today I want to share with you an online math program that I was asked to review called  A+ Interactive Math (by A+ TutorSoft Inc.).  For this review, I was blessed with a 1-year subscription to their  Family Math Package to use with all 3 of my children. Using this program you can address any learning gaps that may be present with your children and address those areas they need to have more learning in. There is no pretest as you will have access to All the grade levels ( Grades 1-6, Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 ). So you can easily move your child to the area that you feel they need to be in and even to the lesson that teaches those areas they need to know.  Each grade level supplies you with course contents with Math Video Lessons, review that is interactive for the student, Math Worksheets, tests, grading and tracking and well let’s just say a whole lot more!

The Family Math Package also includes PDF’s of the lessons, worksheets, and tests that you can print out and also a handy reference sheet for the students or teacher use. The program is so flexible that if one purchase a 1-year program and the student completes that year in say 8 months, you can move them into the next grade and continue to use the program through that 1 year period. If your student is struggling you can move them back into the area needed or just do some review of those sections, even if it is in a lower grade. Students can also go back into the course to review or catch up if this is needed.
You can use this program on iPad or Android-based tablets that supports Adobe Flash. ( Keep in mind that most browsers on mobile devices do not support Adobe Flash.  I recommend the “Puffin Web Browser”. It is free to download off of Play Store and the AppStore.

Family Math

There is also another program available Adaptive Math Curriculum Online, that allows you to have your students take a placement test first and then enroll the students in the target grade level. So if your uncertain as to where your student is to be placed, this might be an option for you. This will automatically adjust the difficulty level of the questions based on the answers given by the student and if it detects any learning gaps between the grade level and the student’s ability, it automatically creates a plan just for them. This plan also includes video lessons, interactive review, practice worksheets and automatic tracking and retesting. This covers Grades 1-6 and Pre-Algebra. It is completely automatic and you cannot choose the lessons with this plan.

    My Review

How many times have you wished you had a way to teach your kids, well maybe have someone else teach them, print off worksheets or just be able to do them online and have the grades already kept for you?  If you are raising your hand and saying Me !!! Well, I am right there with you!

At first glance, I wasn’t sure I would like the program.  Once I really got into the website and went through the introduction video and started using the sections and got used to it, I found it very easy for me as an adult.  I also found it very through in content for each grade.  I specifically checked out 3rd, 4th and Algebra 1, as those are the grades my own children are in currently.  ( I would suggest with younger children that you help them in navigating the website. Middle schoolers might need some help at first but should be able to get the hang of it. Highschoolers, well they should be able to do it by themselves after being shown how to get from one area to the next.)

I knew that I was really going to need something where the kids could go back into a lower grade on some areas and do some review before proceeding to the next grade of school work in Math.  So I looked at the 3rd and 4th grade first for my son Daniel.  I could go in and set up his student profile and launch the program.  I went in and looked at the 4th grade first and could plainly see that I would have to go back and start him on some of the 3rd-grade topics.  Not on all of them but on some of them, to cover areas I knew he was not as strong in.  I think this program is great for this need we have in reviewing basics and going on to where he needs to be in 4th grade.

Next, I went in a checked out the Algebra 1, also very thorough in content and since the girls know some of this, I only need to have them start with those units needed and skip the areas that they already have strengths in.  But I also could go back into the Pre-Algebra and touch on some of the basics they seemed to forget over time. Mostly areas of how to figure the problems.

I would be able to print of the Reference Sheets for each student and place in a binder for them to look back at if they needed to.  This printables section I think is a very handy and cost-saving benefit if you have a printer and want a hard copy of the students to work. It again has worksheets, reviews, and tests, but also you will find answer keys in this section that you can use to check and explain to the student how the problem was worked through.

If you don’t have a printer, you can do it all online or you have the option of ordering the textbook, student workbooks, or the solutions keys.  At a very affordable price!

This past January we invested in we invested in desktop computers for the kids and me for schooling, so this online program seems to look like a good fit for us.  If life gets in the way and it does, it is all online and will save their grades for me.  It is a very nice time-saving feature.  We also have Android tablets with Puffin Browser on them and this allows the kids to work independently in their bedrooms for quietness and lets them focus better. An excellent way to assign review or use it as homework for them in areas they need improvement.

A+ Interactive Math (by A+ TutorSoft Inc.)  gives you the ability to also order dvd’s with the covered content for each grade as well as Workbooks, Text, and Solutions Manuals.

I hope you will visit their website, sign up for the free trial and see what you think and if it meets the needs of your students!  I really found this to be very complete and educational, not only for myself but it will be for the children as well.

Discussion Book Series and A Boy and His Dog by Kayla Jarmon

We received three electronic books, A Boy, and His Dog,  Dying is Part of This World, and Don’t Forget Me from Kayla Jarmon for our review.
A Boy and His Dog Cover-01

A Boy and His Dog
You have heard folks say ” A Boy and His Dog! ”  This book shows the close friendship and relationship of both.  My husband is a dog person really can relate to this and we often have talks about our Dogs and our past pets we have had and loved.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This book was so cute!  It shows what a sweet loving and fun relationship he has with his dog and how they do everything together, even bath together and the dog even sleeps on his bed.  Daniel enjoyed this book, in our home, we have dogs whose names are Baby and Konike. Baby is our Great Pryensse and Konike is our Black Lab/Retriever mix who is chocolate colored.  Daniel knows that having a dog means more than just feeding and watering, it comes with expense and responsibility.

Dying is Part of This World Cover-01

Dying Is Part of This World
Everyone has to deal with this subject and it seems that we all struggle with this topic. This thoughtfully written book shares about the fear of death. There are scripture references and discussion questions to provoke great conversation and prayer. With God’s knowledge and wisdom, you can overcome the fear of death and live a victorious life! Christ has conquered death! Amen

Dying is Part of This World was sorta a needed thing for us, so getting to read this was very helpful.  We lost my Dad a year ago May 25th, on my birthday. This was hard for me, but Daniel came to NY with me and we saw him the day before he passed. Since Daniel has had questions, this made it easier for me to share my belief on this without the worry of my emotions taking over.  We could just read this book and talk about death in general. We know that my Dad is in heaven with God and having this book reaffirm this helped us a lot. At the end of each chapter is discussion questions for us to use and talk about. Really great book if your trying to share this with your children and have lost someone close to you.

Don't Forget Me Cover-01

Don’t Forget Me
Don’t Forget Me depicts a conversation between God and the Baby through pregnancy and birth. It will bring emotions and maybe even a tear to your eyes, as you are reminded that God is the author and giver of life. A perfect gift for expectant parents and siblings!

This book is meant to be used in the Christian Home. The Discussion Book Series encourages great discussions with discussion questions and Scripture references. This book is aimed at family discussion or even a woman’s bible study or teen girls class on marriage and pregnancy!

Since Daniel is my baby, I read this one myself.  This is the most Thoughtful and Encouraging book. Not just for children but for anyone expecting a baby.  It would be a great book to read to your children if you are expecting to share the biblical worldview of God being there from conception, birth and beyond.  I loved how it showed the love of God for the child, the love of the mother for her child and also the love of the father for the mother and for the Lord. The illustrations are so sweet and portray just how it is from the womb and it gives a very thoughtful and modest way of showing what happens in birth.  This book touched my heart even as a mom who has had many a miscarriage and it really should be in the church and the home. I love the verses in the back of the book that we can use to share God’s word with our children on conception, development, and birth.  I really love this book!

I hope you will consider these books for your children and your home. Also, consider getting this for your church when it is available in paperback or audio. I would so highly encourage Don’t Forget Me, for a teen group or a pre-marriage class.   All of these books are so well illustrated and very well written.

My Review

I really enjoyed this devotional !  It is just the right size and time needed to give you a fast read and a really indepth look at life in story form.  I am very fond of many of the authors and have enjoyed their stories in the past.  I think this made it more enjoyable for me.

Each Story made things so real to me and hit home in a real sense.  This is a sweet book and would make a wonderful gift for a book lover, new mom or a friend !  Even for a young lady who is in need of learning some of life’s lessons.

Depending on your reading speed each story might take you 5 to 10 mins and I think that is great for a homeschooling mom like myself or a new wife or mothers who is busy.

I know that you would just love this Devotional !

Guest Post from Kathy Ide

I’ve always loved Christian fiction, and I’ve seen the power of fiction to touch hearts and change lives, both firsthand and hearing about the experiences of others. But you know, in my quiet times with the Lord, reading a chapter from a novel just doesn’t seem quite appropriate. So a devotional with short fiction stories seemed like a great solution. And you can take these purse-sized devotionals wherever you go, to read when you have a few minutes of down time. It’s a great way to get “inspiration on the go.” And they make fantastic gifts for friends and loved ones.

National Geographic Kids Leveled Readers and Super Readers

Lins ZTE Pics 433

I just love these books !  Each one is filled with beautiful photos and illustrations of each topic or story.  Being a bunny lover and a breeder in the past with ARBA, I have to say that Hop, Bunny was my favorite. They are fun and also very educational.  We homeschool and these fit right into our routine.  A few were easy for my son Daniel to read and the Level 3 were right where he is at in reading.

My grandchildren are also going to love these !  We all live a lifestyle of learning and the National Geographic Readers and Super Readers are a wonderful addition to our family.  I love that there is a word list in Vocabulary Tree for us to learn with ! They are very colorful and Entertaining.

I also really enjoyed the hardcover book Animal Ark ! It is full of Wild Animals and given the size it really held my Son’s Attention.  Giving an idea of the sights and sounds of each animal, so that it is a learning experience in a story !

Lins ZTE Pics 434

We visited the website for the children at natgeokids.com/superreaders  where they can watch videos, play games, learn about the animals, share photos and earn badges !  What a fun and exciting interactive website for the children to enjoy !  You really must take your children on a visit there ! Wake Up Smiling 40 Devotions for a Hope-Filled Life by Audrey Meisner

cover105768-medium

Before you open your eyes or say a word each morning, a few precious moments have the potential to place you on the pathway of peace and hope. Make these seconds count. They are more important than you can even imagine!

In Wake Up Smiling, Audrey shares her very personal journey of taking three simple Bible verses and believing them in a way that some may say is outrageous. Living heaven on earth has become very real for her, and every morning she wakes up with hope. If you’re ready to live, dream, and experience freedom from worry and fear, Jesus really is as close as the mention of His name. He’s waiting to share His secrets with those who will abandon all and say, “I am ready.”

God has a recipe for hope for you. It is practical, it will turn your life around, and it starts as you wake up.

My Review

This book is filled with 40 relatively short devotional readings to give you a smile as you start your day ! I would say that each may take 5 to 15 minutes to read and give insight into how to apply the lesson learned to your life.  It is a very good way to get to know the Lord better and what he wants for our lives.  It is an enjoyable thing to do each day and a great way to start your day with the Lord.     I really am enjoying this devotional  and It would make a nice gift for giving to a friend or a friend shut in !

About the Author

Sally Fallon Morell, MA (President), is a journalist, chef, nutrition researcher, homemaker, and community activist. She is the author of Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats. This well-researched, thought-provoking guide to traditional foods contains a startling message: Animal fats and cholesterol are not villains but vital factors in the diet, necessary for normal growth, proper function of the brain and nervous system, protection from disease and optimum energy levels.

Ms. Morell’s lifelong interest in the subject of nutrition began in the early 1970s when she read Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Weston A. Price. Called the “Isaac Newton of Nutrition,” Price traveled the world over studying healthy primitive populations and their diets. The unforgettable photographs contained in his book document the beautiful facial structure and superb physiques of isolated groups consuming only whole, natural foods. Price noted that all of these diets contained a source of good quality animal fat, which provided numerous factors necessary for the full expression of our genetic potential and optimum health. Ms. Morell applied the principles of the Price research to the feeding of her own children, and proved for herself that a diet rich in animal fats, and containing the protective factors in old fashioned foodstuffs like cod liver oil, liver and eggs, make for sturdy cheerful children with a high immunity to illness.

My Review

Being a fan of Sally’s book The Nourishing Traditions : The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats  which happily resides on my kindle as well, I was super thrilled to be chosen to do a review on Nourishing Fats !  I paid for my first book and will do a review for you in the future on that book, but for today we are going to take a look into Nourishing Fats !  Let us lay aside the fact we have been lied to since the early 1900’s about how unhealthy Butter and Animal Meats with fat are so unhealthy for us to the point that were all suffering with ill health and disease ( You can read the history in this book and online ) Let’s take a look at This book as a whole  shall we ?

Sally has not missed a thing in this book, history ( I learned a lot ) Your never too old to learn what is good and healthy for you , science and the roles different fats play. You will learn so much ! Where fatty acids come from, where Fat Soluble Vitamins come from and what they do for you ! You will also learn what fats are bad for you and what to avoid to stay healthy.  Also what fats your children need to stay healthy. What fats are for mental health !  Why Cholesterol is good for you !  And the best part is the recipes showing you how to use those fats !  I am just totally thrilled ! From Breakfast Smoothies to Cream of Potato Soup with Bacon ( I think Love this book ! )  Dressings to Veggies roasted in Duck fat !  Even Meat to Seafood !  and Desserts too !

I don’t know about you, but I am thinking this all sounds so great and I think I am hungry ! I am so glad that I got to read this and share it with you all !
